Alberto Ángel Fernández (born
April 2 ,1959 ) is anArgentine politician. He was the Chief ofCabinet ofArgentina duringNéstor Kirchner presidency, and part ofCristina Fernández de Kirchner 's. He resigned onJuly 23 ,2008 .Fernández was born in
Buenos Aires and studied in the Faculty of Law of theUniversity of Buenos Aires , from where he graduated at the age of 24. He was a professor of criminal law there. As a student he was an activist in the conservative Partido Nacionalista Constitucional, headed by Alberto Assef, an associate of Mohammed Alí Seineldín, the military figure behind the attempted coup d'état of 1990. In the field of politics, he worked in non-elective posts in the Deliberative Council of Buenos Aires City, in theArgentine Chamber of Deputies and in the national Ministry of Economy, during the 1990s. He was also involved in insurance and health services companies in the private field and in state banks and companies. During this time he became politically close to the governor of the province of Buenos Aires,Eduardo Duhalde .On
2000-06-07 Fernández was elected Deputy for the City ofBuenos Aires , for the minor party "Acción por la República" led byDomingo Cavallo , then Minister of Economy of the de la Rúa administration. He gave up his seat when he was appointed Chief of Cabinet by PresidentNéstor Kirchner upon taking office on2003-05-25 . He retained the same position under new PresidentCristina Fernández de Kirchner upon her election in 2007 and resigned to his office on2008-07-23 .References
