- Kerry Jones
Kerry Jones was the National Executive-Director for
Australians for Constitutional Monarchy (ACM) between 1994 and 2005. She first came to the role after The Hon.Tony Abbott stepped down from the post. She was the most public face of opposition to an Australian republic in the 1990s. She was elected as a "No Republic - ACM" representative to the 1998 Australian Constitutional Convention. She then led the successful "No" campaign at the
1999 Australian republic referendum .In October 2000 she failed to gain preselection as a Liberal party candidate for the Legislative Council of
New South Wales .Her critics claim that she is more interested in Britain's traditions than those of
Australia . To support this claim they point to the fact that she is aware of the significance of theUnion Flag on the Australian Flag, but in a radio interview in2000 , when asked how many stars were in theSouthern Cross , she eventually replied "I think there's probably four, isn't it?" Australia Jones, along with ACM National Convenor ProfessorDavid Flint , were the most vocal opponents of theAustralian Labor Party 's election promise to remove the Crown fromAustralian politics .External links
