Bodinayakanur is the 2nd biggest and most populated city in Theni district next to only
Theni , the district headquarters. Bodinayakanur is Taluk Head Quarter. The immediate competitor is Periyakulam. One of its Government higher secondary school has a student strength of 5000, which was founded in 1906.The city has a very old Water purification and pumping system, which was built around 1900 and is still fully functional. the town gets water from the hills nearby. the town has a railway station, which was built by the British, when they ruled India. the main purpose was to carry the cardamom that is produced here.the town also has some satellite villages.
The vehicle registration is done at Theni. the RTO number is TN-60. the district court is in Periakulam. The collector's office is in Theni. Bodi was one of the three places which was announced as municipality in 1960's along with Dindigul and Madurai.
Education
The famous school here is a century old Z.K.M Higher Secondary school. Other than this school, several other institutions(vista kairos),arts and science college are available. For higher studies, people migrate to other cities like Madurai, Chennai, Trichy and abroad.
Economy
The main business is agriculture. Paddy, Sugar cane, Banana, Corn, Maize are some of the main crops planted here. the climate is very good. the average temperature in day time is 25 degree Celsius to 30 degree Celsius. it is on the border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The major plantation crops here is Silk Cotton, Mango, Pepper, Coffee, Tea and Cardamom. It is due to the weather and natural beauties, the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru called this place as "Southern Kashmir"
