Birsinghpur is named as it because in 19th century there was a king named Veer Singh. The town is named Birsinghpur after him. Birsinghpur is also known as Pali or Birsinghpur-Pali.
Geography
Birsinghpur is situated on the Umaria-Shahdol road (NH78), at a distnace of about 36 km from Umaria and 40 km from Shahdol. Another road goes from Birsinghpur to Mandla via Dindori. Birsinghpur is also a railway station on Katni-Bilaspur section of S E Railway, and there is a rest house and Hotel Prateek for the tourists to stay. The station is known as the Pali-Birsinghpur station.
Prakash Nagar
The Town has a small twin town known as Prakash Nagar(City of lights). It's the site for a 1340MW power plant known as "Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station" [http://wikimapia.org/1560140/] (SGTPS). Prakashnagar also has a small hydroelectric power plant(25MW). The Dam is built on
Johila River which is a tributary of theNarmada river . The lake formed due to this DAM makes this place really fascinating.This area in

It is famous for
Shiva temple. Near the railway station there is a temple, enshrining Birasinidevi. By popular belief she is Goddess Kali, represented here as skeleton Goddess, but with her mouth closed. Many remains of old jain idols kept here in some Hindu temples. Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station (4x210+500MW) & hydel power plant(20 MW) is situated near jJohila river in Birsinghpur. It is run by Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited(MPPGCL). There are huge coal reserves in the vicinity.
