"Throwing It All Away" is the seventh track on the 1986 album "Invisible Touch" by Genesis. It was issued as the second single from the album in 1986, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 [Billboard.com archive ( [http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/esearch/chart_display.jsp?cfi=379&cfgn=Singles&cfn=The+Billboard+Hot+100&ci=3005223&cdi=6244528&cid=08%2F23%2F1986 link] )] and a modest #22 in Britain, where it was released as the last single of the album in 1987.

The US single included the instrumental "Do the Neurotic" as the B-side, while the UK edition featured the track "I'd Rather Be You". ("Do the Neurotic" was the B-side of the earlier single "In Too Deep" in Britain.)

The CD version of the "Invisible Touch" album incorrectly lists the running time as 4 minutes and 41 seconds (4:41), when the correct time is actually 3 minutes and 50 seconds (3:50).

A live version appears on their Albums "", and "Live Over Europe 2007". As well as on their DVD "When in Rome 2007".

During the intro and just before the end of the live performances, Phil Collins would engage in Call and response with the audience using nonsensical language.

A Music video for the song was comprised of soundcheck footage and shots of the band traveling whilst on tour. And is featured on their DVD The Video Show.
