Education
There is a coed government college of engineering started (in 1994) with 2 branches, expanded to 4 branches and now (2007) reduced to three branches (EEE, ECE & CSE). It has hostel facilities for both boys and girls. This engineering college is the youngest of the 6 government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. It was originally affiliated to Madras University, then to Periyar university and then to Anna university as a constituent college. There is a bill introduced in the State Assembly to delink its Constituent college status and revert it back to government control with affliation to Anna University.
The college was originally housed in 2 buildings within the government polytechnic campus krishnagiri. It was shifted to its present campus at Bargur in July 2000.
There is a Polytechnic in Bargur run by Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT).It has 3 branches,EEE, ECE & CSE. There is a Government Women's Arts and Science college at Bargur
Economy
Bargur is famous for its mango fruits and export orineted fruit processing factories.Bargur has a famous Textile Market with turnover of crores of rupees. This is surprising as there is not a single textile mill at Bargur. The textile market shops are all retailers only.
