After the decline of Hastinapur, Ahar which is situated in the north of Anupshahr became an important place for Pandavas. Its founder was Raja Anup Singh Bargujar, the eldest son of Raja Pratap Singh Bargujar who was King Prithviraj Chauhans nephew,so we can fix the date of foundation of present day Anupshahr to A.D.1152 being named after Raja Anup Singh Bargujar,at present it is called by his name.He was a religious man and built many temples.

Later Mugal Emperor Jhangeer presented this area to king “Aniroy” to save his life during hunting. He made this place his capital. With passes of time the king Aniroy made a fort on this part of region. At present this is called by this name.

During the period of king Tarasingh (the 8th generation of king “Aniroy”) this area progressed very much. At that time this area was famous for Ayurveda and business by boats in the north India. In 1857 during the first want of independence even Anupshahr could not remain away from the popular explosion against the British rule. One message of resolution was carried from Aligarh by Pandit Narayan Sharma on 10 May 1857 to Bulandshahr.

The first popular alarm of freedom struggle was surrounded in the bulandshahar district by the nationalist, brave. The Bargujars of Dadri and Sikandrabad area began destruction of inspection bungalows telegraph offices and government buildings as they were symbols of foreign rule.
