Gateway Theatre (Chester)

Gateway Theatre (Chester)

The Gateway Theatre was a small producing and receiving theatre in the city of Chester, England.

The theatre has welcomed many acclaimed performers, including Matthew Kelly, Les Dennis and Dennis Waterman.

The venue closed in April 2007 and will be replaced with a larger Performing Arts Centre. Although there have been many struggles in the past with keeping the theatre open, the current Northgate Development has proven itself too powerful.

Update:when The opening of a new Performing Arts Centre now hangs in the balance after The Northgate Project took a massive blow to funding due to the Northern Rock closure.

Youth theatre

The long running Youth Theatre is still running three evenings a week. From January - March 2007, the Youth Theatre performed a show written, directed, and staged entirely from their own imagination. The show was entitled "Still Life". "North West Tonight" reported on the project, and tickets quickly sold out.

The 17+ Group's final project, "The Next Big Thing", told the story of a disgraced record label manager, who claims he can make anyone a star. When the media hold him to his word, he is forced to turn five ordinary boys into overnight superstars, with a little help from the most unlikely, and unwelcome sources!
