Baron Lucas of Chilworth

Baron Lucas of Chilworth

Baron Lucas of Chilworth, of Chilworth in the County of Southampton, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1946 for George Lucas, a businessman and Labour politician. He later served as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard in the Labour government of Clement Attlee. His son, the second Baron, sat in contrast to his father on the Conservative benches in the House of Lords and served under Margaret Thatcher as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Trade and Industry from 1984 to 1987. As of 2007 the title is held by his eldest son, the third Baron, who succeeded in 2001.

The Hon. Sir Ivor Lucas, second son of the first Baron, served as British Ambassador to Syria from 1982 to 1984.
