University of Wisconsin System , located in Whitewater,Wisconsin . It became Wisconsin's second public college onApril 21 ,1868 when it opened its doors to 39 students taught by nine faculty members. It is a four-year, co-educational, residential college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Enrollment in 2005-06 stood at 10,700 (9,436 undergraduate, 1,264 graduate and professional). The chancellor is Richard Telfer. The school motto is "Stay Close. Go Far."Campus
Hyer Hall
In 1925 the addition of an East wing was added to Old Main Hall. It was later renamed Hyer Hall in honor of former school president Frank S. Hyer in 1968. On
February 7 ,1970 "Old Main" hall caught on fire. The central, north and west towers burned down along with the bell tower. The only surviving wing — Hyer Hall — underwent a $6.4 million restoration in 1997. It was completed by 1999 and included many 21st century technologies. It now houses many of the University's administrative offices in addition to classrooms and lecture halls. Hyer Hall has hosted the likes of the Milwaukee Symphony, Amelia Earhart, Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy.University Center
In 1959 the University Center opened. Several expansions throughout the decades brought the total square footage to convert|130000|sqft|m2. In 1997 it was officially named after former Chancellor James R. Connor.
During the summer of 2006 the University Center (UC) was almost completely closed for extensive construction projects which included demolition of portions of the building, the construction of new additions to the building, and remodeling of the remaining portions. The completed multi-million dollar project opened on time in January 2008 with a weekend of events to help build interest in the new facilities which includes a movie theater, recreation center, coffee house, the return of The Down Under, and many other new or remodeled amenities.

Hawk Squad
he Hawk Squad is "the face of the first year experience." This student team is made up of upper class students with extensive leadership experience at UW-W. This team serves as the host for all of the programs and services offered through the First Year Experience office. This team provides leadership for freshmen and transfer students during Plan-It Purple. They also host Club U-Dub Dub and Zero Gravity for our freshmen. The Hawk Squad represents the First Year Experience at On Campus Days for prospective students as well. If it's an FYE event, it's a "Hawk Squad" event. Look for them at your next FYE program!!
Whitewater Student Government

UW-Whitewater is a member of NCAA Division III for athletics. It is a member of the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).The athletics teams are nicknamed the Warhawks and wear purple and white.
On
December 15 ,2007 inSalem, Virginia the UW-Whitewater Men's football team won their first NCAA Division III National Championship at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in a 31 to 21 victory over theMount Union College Purple Raiders. This was the third year in a row that the Warhawks faced the Purple Raiders in theStagg Bowl , losing the previous two meetings. This year is also the first year for new head coachLance Leipold , having replaced the retiredBob Berezowitz . The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is also one of the few Division III programs that has a Civil War style cannon which is fired whenever the UW-Warhawk football team scores a touchdown. The cannon is also fired at the conclusion of the National Anthem, and at the end of the game. The cannon belongs to and is operated by Mike Lesko, a former student of UW-Whitewater. The replica Confederate Mountain Rifle is entering it's 14 year of service to UW-W without missing any home games in that 14 years. Students are encouraged to come and join the cannon crew to fire it at the home games.
