Lianne Mars is a fictional character on The CW television series "Veronica Mars". She is portrayed by Corinne Bohrer.

Background

Lianne Mars is the mother of Veronica Mars. Her alcoholism has been the subject of numerous tauntings to Veronica.

Lianne was the high school sweetheart of future millionaire, Jake Kane. Lianne and Jake both attended Neptune High School, where Lianne was credited to being both a gossip and a friend to the deaf girl, Mary (biological mother of Trina Echolls). Lianne later marries Keith Mars. During her marriage to Keith, Lianne and Jake start having an affair. Because of this affair, Veronica's paternity is at one point under question, but it is later proven that Keith is indeed Veronica's biological father. After the Lilly Kane murder is made public, Lianne left the Mars family for parts unknown.

Lianne later returns in season one, claiming to want to fix her problems. Ever eager to help, Veronica cashes in all of her college savings to enter her mother into rehab. Afterwards, Lianne returns to stay, seemingly sober. It turns out, however, that Lianne is still drinking, and Veronica finally confronts her.

:VERONICA: I know, Mom. I know you're not through drinking, I know you didn't even finish rehab. You checked yourself out and that was my college money. I bet on you, and I lost. I've been doing that my whole life. And I'm through.

With that, Veronica tells Lianne to pack her bags and leave. Lianne does so, but not before stealing the $50,000 reward Keith had earned for locating the runaway Duncan Kane, leaving the remaining Mars members in a dire financial situation and Veronica again with no college money.

Lianne recently appeared in the season two finale, in a dream. Said dream depicts Veronica's fictional life, if Lilly Kane had never been murdered. The dream features her father as sheriff and Lianne as the perfect mother.
