Johnstown ( _ga. Baile Sheáin) is a village in County Kilkenny in southeast midlands of Ireland, in the Diocese of Ossory. The town lies at the junction of the main N8 Dublin-Cork road and the R502 and R435 regional roads. It is the home of the [Fenians GAA] hurling club. Situated convert|121|km|mi from Dublin and convert|131|km|mi from Cork, it lies in the agricultural heartland of the southeast.

The town is home to two schools: Coláiste Mhuire—a vocational secondary school—and St Kieran's National School.

The village of Johnstown is over 200 years old and was once part of the barony of Galmoy.

A ruinous tower house castle, constructed by the Shortall family before the Cromwellian conquest, lies a few miles to the southeast in Upper Balief.
