Landis+Gyr

Landis+Gyr, until early 2008 "The Bayard Group", is a company focused on metering and other technologies which deal with management of scarce resources. Founded by Cameron O'Reilly, who is currently CEO, it has a turnover in excess of 1.25 billion USD per annum. The name was previously that of a Swiss company formed in 1896, absorbed by the Bayard Group, the world's largest electricity metering supplier. The combined company has its headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, rather than Bayard's old Australian base, and as of July 18 2008, is opening a New York office, where the CEO will be based.

History

In May 2003, Cameron O'Reilly launched investment house "Bayard Capital", with 100 million Australian dollars from various shareholders, including John Fairfax and the government of SingaporeSydney, Australia, March 13 2003: Asia Pulse, "Former APN News & Media Ltd Chief Executive Cameron O'Reilly has raised more than A$100 million through his privately owned Bayard Capital Partners Pty Ltd."] ; he himself sold share in early 2004 to invest in Bayard, which spent over 200 million USD on acquisitions in its first year, finishing that year with 3500 employees in 27 countries and annual sales of over 600 million USD.

O'Reilly developed Bayard with a focus on investments that leveraged growing shortages of energy and water, including metering technology, and by 2008, the Bayard group of companies employed over 5000 people across 30 countries, with a turnover of in excess of 1.2 billion USD and EBITDA earnings in excess of 200 million USD [www.bayard.com.au About Us, retrieved March 26 2008] .

Bayard becomes Landis+Gyr

The CEO is Cameron O'Reilly, the President and COO Andreas Umbach, previously CEO of the original Landis+Gyr, and the CFO Andreas Spreiter, who held a similar role in the original Landis+Gyr.

The original Landis+Gyr

Landis+Gyr was established in 1898, and provided a wide range of metering products, systems and solutions for electricity, heat and gas to energy utilities all over the world, being the largest player in that global industry.

In 2006, Landis+Gyr merged with Enermet, a Finnish firm in the same area of technology, creating an enlarged company employing about 4500 people in 45 subsidiaries in 30 countries, with a total turnover of 692 million Euro in 2006.
