footnotes =Kormuk (also known as Kumruk) is a town in western
Ethiopia . Located in theAsosa Zone of theBenishangul-Gumuz Region , Kormuk has a latitude and longitude of coord|10|32|N|34|17|E with an elevation of 653 meters above sea level.In 1962 Kormuk was connected to Asosa by a dry weather road, "rough but passable by trucks" according to the Highway Authority. Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency, in 2005 this town has an estimated total population of 554, of whom 297 were males and 257 were females. [ [http://www.csa.gov.et/text_files/2005_national_statistics.htm CSA 2005 National Statistics] , Table B.3] According to the 1994 national census, its total population was 322, of whom 172 were males and 150 were females. It is the largest settlement in Kormuk
woreda .The Italian colonial battalion garrisoned at Kormuk attacked its twin in
Sudan ,Kurmuk ,7 July 1940 , which was held by Bimbashi Mervyn Bell, with three British auxiliaries and 51 police. Bell eventually withdrew his men in good order, allowing the Italians to capture Kurmuk. Kormuk was taken from the Italians by the British several months later on14 February ,1941 .
