Sillod is a major city and a municipal council in Aurangabad District, Maharashtra in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The world-famous Ajanta Caves are very near to Sillod (30 km away). Ajanta is a world heritage site & popular for the colourful paintings of ancient India.

History

There was a village named Shivanitapur where the city stands today. According to some historians, there is a hemadpanthi Mahadev Mandir which is still stand in the old area of city (Mhasoba Colony).

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Sillod had a population of 43,859. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sillod has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 56%. In Sillod, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Education

Since India's independence, Sillod is a major learning center of Sillod Tahsil and near by area. Zilha Parishad School, Sillod is the main and largest state government operated school in sillod city which gives education from Kindergarten to 10th class(SSC) founded in 1952.

Now a days there is to many school as well as preschool institute like Chatrapati Shivaji Vidyalaya, Ramkrishna Vidyalaya, Sant Eknath Vidyalaya, G.A.Shah English School, Littel Wonder School, Rashtramata Indira Gandhi Vidyalaya, Maulana Azad School etc. are in service of Sillodkar provides State Government Pattern as well as CBSC Pattern Educations in English, Marathi, Hindi, Urdu and Semi English Languages.

The Yashwantrao Chavan College of Arts Commerce & Science is main graduation college of Sillod as well as Aurangabad District which founded by the Late Hon. Dadasaheb Palodkar. Which provide the all type of Degree Cources like BA, BCom, BSc, BCA, etc. in specialized field like computer Biotechnology, Music, Tourism etc. as well as 11th & 12th (HSC). Except Professional Degree Courses. Now there is more two colleges open in Sillod for students, one is Ramkrishn College and second is Indraraj CollegS.

The city has more than one institution of higher education in Engineering, Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Education faculties each. In first part of 21st century, many good schools have come up.
