Strontian is the main
village inSunart , an area in westernLochaber , Highland,Scotland , on theA861 road . It lies on the north shore ofLoch Sunart , close to the head of the loch. In the hills to the north of Strontian was discovered the mineralstrontianite , from which the elementstrontium was first isolated.The village name in Gaelic, "
Sròn an t-Sìtheinn", translates as the "nose" [ie. 'point'] "of the fairies", meaning a knoll or low round hill inhabited by the mythological "sídhe ".External links
