"The Caste System" is the tenth episode of the second season of the HBO television series "Sex and the City". It originally aried on August 8 1999.

Carrie tells Mr Big that she loves him, and he responds by looking shocked, and then ignoring her statement. She gets fed up with high society while at an Upper East Side party with Big. Big buys her a purse shaped like a swan, which she hates and later realizes is based on the preference of the Upper-Class women that she hates at the party. She wonders if Mr Big knows her at all. Miranda and Steve have an argument over money and social status, due to her well paid job and his inability to provide for her, which he finds emasculating. Charlotte meets Wyle Ford, the movie star who takes her on a whirlwind romance. Samantha dates a man with a Southeast Asian live-in servant who takes a dislike to her.
