* 2001 – The km to mi|43.5 stretch of railway between Murska Sobota, Slovenia, and Zalalövő, Hungary, is opened, in part following the route originally opened in 1907 and dismantled in 1968.
* 2006 – Norfolk Southern Railroad is awarded the Gold E. H. Harriman Award for employee safety for the 17th consecutive year, a record that has not been equaled.
