Pehr Gustaf Holmes was a
United States Representative fromMassachusetts .He was born in Mölnbacka,
Värmland ,Sweden onApril 9 ,1881 . In 1886 he immigrated to theUnited States with his parents, who settled inWorcester, Massachusetts . Holmes attendedpublic school s, and engaged in manufacturing. He also engaged in the banking and insurance business. He was elected member of the common council of Worcester, was a member of the board of aldermen, and served as its president. He wasmayor of Worcester 1917-1919, and served as a member of the Governor’s council, seventh Massachusetts district 1925-1928.He was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-second and to the seven succeeding Congresses (
March 4 ,1931 –January 3 ,1947 ). Holmes was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1946 to the Eightieth Congress. He returned to Worcester and hiselectrotype business, and died inVenice, Florida onDecember 19 ,1952 . His interment was in Old Swedish Cemetery in Worcester.External links
