Madeleine is a station of the Paris Métro. It is named after the Église de la Madeleine.

Its name refers to a small settlement which had grown up by the 6th century, around a stronghold of the Bishop of Paris. It was known from an early date as "la Ville-l’Évêque" (City of the Bishop) and its chapel was dedicated to Sainte Madeleine in the 18th century.
