The Pointe-à-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust is a
not for profit environmentalnon-government organisation located inPointe-à-Pierre ,Trinidad and Tobago . The Trust, which occupies 25 ha within thePetrotrin oil refinery , is dedicated to the conservation ofwetland s andwaterfowl , especially native whistling ducks and toenvironmental education . It was founded in 1966. The Trust received a Humming Bird Medal (Gold) in 1994 for its work in environmental education.The Trust is run by a staff of volunteers and paid staff. The President,
Molly Gaskin was enrolled in the UNEPGlobal 500 Roll of Honour [http://www.global500.org/ViewLaureate.asp?ID=167] . She played an important role in getting Trinidad and Tobago to accede to theRamsar Convention , an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable utilisation of wetlands. She also received Humming Bird Medal (Gold) in 1986. The Secretary,Karilyn Shephard has also made important contributions to conservation.The Trust has been a long-time advocate for
sea turtle conservation and the protection of theNariva Swamp , a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance.External links
