The Bank of the West Classic is a week-long tennis tournament on the WTA Tour held in Stanford, California, United States. The 2008 event was held July 14 to July 20. Started in 1971, the tournament is the oldest women's-only tournament in the world and is played on outdoor hardcourts. Martina Navratilova holds the record for the most singles titles: five (1979-1980, 1988, 1991, and 1993).
