Tomasz Schafernaker is a
BBC Weather forecaster. He regularly presents the weather on theBBC News at One , and often fronts the BBC's flagship forecast for the week ahead during theCountryfile programme on Sunday mornings. He also appears onBBC World News , BBC News,BBCi and BBC Radio.Tomasz was born in
Gdańsk ,Poland and attended school both in his native Poland and in theUK . He was educated at the independent school St. John's College,Southsea , inPortsmouth , where he took A-levels in Mathematics, Physics and Art. Whilst Tomasz is a very talented artist his real passion was always for theweather . This led him to studyMeteorology at theUniversity of Reading where he gained a hisBSc in Meteorology with honours.He joined the
BBC Weather Centre in 2000, working as a Broadcast Assistant. He spent some time giving BBC regional forecasts across the UK, and presented onBBC World during the winter of 2003.During 2004 and 2005 Tomasz upgraded his Meteorological knowledge and experience, studying at the
Met Office college inExeter and training as a forecaster for aviation. He also worked for a time atITV , as well as theLondon Weather Centre .Tomasz rejoined the BBC in 2006.
Tomasz caused outrage amongst Scottish BBC viewers in February 2007 when referring to the
Outer Hebrides or Western Isles as "nowheresville" in a weather bulletin aired on bothBBC One and theBBC News Channel . He later made an apology.On
19 May 2008 Schafernaker confirmed live on air on the BBC News Channel that his surname isAustria n.External links
