Robert Copeland (born 26 May 1981) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

Overview

He was recruited through the 2001 Rookie Draft (QLD Zone) from the Northern Eagles and was elevated to the Senior list on 10 May that year after Mick Martin was placed on the long-term injury list. He made his debut for the Brisbane Lions in Round 9, 2001 against Adelaide.

Copeland is regularly employed in a tagging role, which involves playing a very defensive game against a key opposition player in order to limit their impact on the game. Copeland's tagging job on Collingwood Captain, Nathan Buckley in the 2003 AFL Grand Final was considered a decisive influence in the Brisbane Lions premiership win.

Copeland is known affectionately as "Bushie' by his Brisbane Lions team mates.

Robert Copeland is considered to be one of the toughest AFL player in the league and also known for his ferocious tackles he makes on opponents. In addition, he is considered to be one of the best Left Half Back Flank in the league.Fact|date=April 2008

Copeland was delisted by the Lions on September 19 2008. [cite news|url=http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=67930|title=Brisbane Lions discard premiership player Copeland|publisher=AFL Website|date=2008-09-19 |accessdate=2008-09-19]

After immidiate delisting from Brisbane Lions, AFLQ clubs such as Broadbeach Cats, his former club Zillmere Eagles, Southport Sharks and Labrador Tigers have shown a keen interest to allow him to join them for 2009 AFLQ season.
