Bob Wade entered the New City of Hamilton's Mayoralty race and was not expected to win. The incumbent Bob Morrow had been Hamilton's longest serving mayor. He also had a strong electoral base. On election night it was revealed that over 50% of the residents of Ancaster had voted in the municipal election and 80% of them voted for Wade. Wade's win was as much a result of Morrow's supporters staying home as it was from his supporters coming out in droves. He was publicly criticized for being out of touch with municipal demands. His term as mayor is widely regarded as a failure.
