- Wuhan Foreign Languages School
Wuhan Foreign Languages School (WFLS) was founded in 1964 in
Wuhan ,People's Republic of China . It offers education from 1st grade to 12th grade with extensive and pioneering foreign language courses while maintaining the same courseload in other subjects as the other junior high/high schools in China. Languages other than English such as Japanese, German, French and Russian, are offered. A student at WFLS entering 7th grade is free to choose to study any of the foreign languages but can only choose one as his/her major second language in the next 6 years.History
WFLS was one of the first four foreign language schools founded in China under the directory of the then Premier,
Zhou En Lai and Vice Premier, Chen Yi.Location
Currently WFLS is a boarding school with a few thousands of students living at its two campuses. One of the campus is located in Downtown Wuhan and the other campus is by the beautiful Prince Lake in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone. Most existing buildings in the two campuses were built after 1998. The buildings inmitate contemporanry European architectural styles. Another campus is currently being built in Wuchang (one of the three major towns in Wuhan).
Education
Being one of the best middle schools in the City of Wuhan and in Hubei Province, WFLS attracts tens of thousands of 6th grade students to sit for its entrance examination every year. Less than two hundred students are accepted each year. Other sources of students include those who are from rich and powerful families.
WFLS has established connections with
Raffles Institution , Singapore. Every year a small number of students graduated from junior high in WFLS are sent to continue education in Singapore.Besides this, WFLS has a sister school in Pittsburgh, USA. It also has exchange programs with high schools and universities in the U.S., UK, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Austria, and New Zealand.External links
