Golden Films

Golden Films

Golden Films is an American-Japanese animation production studio that originated in the year 1992 with seven animated adaptations of classic children's stories. Diane Eskenazi, producer and founder of Golden Films created the studio with the purpose of providing positive quality entertainment free of violence for young children. Jack Olesker, writer for many animated films and series, has also collaborated in the making of many of the studio's films as a script and story writer, including all of the original outputs of 1992. The most well-known films from the studio were characterized by being adaptations of popular children's tales and also for their use of classical music from distinguished European composers.

Distribution

In the United States, the Golden Films productions were distributed by different departments of the GoodTimes corporation: GoodTimes Home Video distributed the original VHS releases in 1992 and GoodTimes Entertainment years later released them on the newer DVD format in 2002 and 2003, in a large collection of "Collectible Classics" that also included the animated outputs of Jetlag Productions and those of other animation studios. GoodTimes' international departments released dubbed versions of the Golden Films movies in many countries, though sometimes, other companies did the distribution. For instance, TriStar Pictures released the original 1992 VHS releases in Spain, while Planeta Junior released them on DVD in the year 2002 in the same country.

Criticism

Since the studio adapted many classic children's stories already adapted by Walt Disney Pictures, many accused Golden Films' outputs of being nothing but cheap attempts to trick consumers into buying them thinking they were the original Disney classics. On the other hand, many defend Golden Films, as well as Jetlag Productions insisting that they are in fact quality entertainment for younger audiences free from violence.
