Ross Thomas , and starringEllen Barkin andLaurence Fishburne .Plot
In the film, Fishbourne and Barkin play a pair of former spies who now apply their skills in the private sector. Both specialize in blackmailing and murdering anyone in their way, including their boss. Initially, Fishburne plays a man who is wrongfully discharged from the CIA, presumably because of his inability to toe the company line. As the story progresses, however, we learn that he is in fact still working for 'The Agency', on a project designed to take down the firm (known colloquially as 'The Toolshed') that has just hired him. The second in command at the Toolshed is Barkin, who comes across as a woman willing to use any means, including frequent and rough sex, to achieve her goal of taking over the firm. The film has been decried as
misogynistic for its callous brutality towards women, but the main point of contention among viewers is whether or not its stylish yet totally soulless attitude is a good thing or a bad thing.References
