Big Ass Truck

Big Ass Truck

Big Ass Truck was an American rock band incorporating elements of hip-hop and funk with a heavy psychedelic influence. This was a full band, with the creative addition of a DJ spinning records. Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee Big Ass Truck originally formed under the name Thrill of Confusion [http://www.vendingmachineband.com/2007/02/man-and-vending-machine.html] around high school peers Robby Grant and Steve Selvidge. Grant taking vocals and guitar playing duties along with Selvidge who, in addition to doing guitar and vocals, also played the organ. The band would eventually evolve into a group called Fester, which then changed its name to Big Ass Truck in 1991 when Selvidge and Grant both graduated from high school.

Though the core members of Big Ass Truck include drummer Robert Barnett, Grant and Selvidge, the line-up has changed here and there throughout the 90s and has known to include Colin Butler, Grayson Grant, Joe Boone and Chris Parker. In 1995 Big Ass Truck's self-titled debut hit the shelves and soon frequent touring with the band 311 would increase the bands popularity before their follow-up release in 1996 titled "Kent". The band would continue on to release an E.P. and two more albums. They also opened for Widespread Panic several times, culminating in an opening set at Red Rocks in 2000. However shortly after their most recent release in 2001 the largely instrumental "The Rug" Big Ass Truck has since been on hiatus. The future of the band is still uncertain, and Big Ass Truck bandmates are not commenting on when or even if the band will ever get back together. Though, according to the band's [http://www.myspace.com/bigasstruckmusic myspace] page, they no longer exist.

Today Robby Grant plays in a solo project under the name Vending Machine and also plays guitar in a band with former Big Ass Truck bandmate Robert Barnett and guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Alicja Trout of The Lost Sounds and River City Tanlines. Steve Selvidge now plays in a band called The Bloodthirsty Lovers along with Dave Shouse who is the former member of Memphis lo-fi rockers The Grifters and Those Bastard Souls. Also more recently Selvidge plays in another group called The Secret Service.
