John Egan (footballer)

John Egan is an All-Ireland winning Gaelic footballer from County Kerry.

Born in Sneem, County Kerry, Egan played for the Kerry County football team in the late 1970s and 1980s. He won a number of All-Ireland senior football medals. Egan was Captain of the 1982 County Kerry Football team because South Kerry won the County Championship. This is how the Captain of Kerry football is selected. Egan was also the recipient of five GAA All Stars Awards in 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1982. He won National Football League medals and Railway Cup medals with the Munster team. He was part of the legendary seven a side team from Sneem that comprised of his brothers that went against the Giants of Kerry football, Austin Stacks in particular. Egan is currently in the Garda Siochana ( Guardians of Peace) Irish Police Force in County Cork, Ireland.
