***Oregon decriminalizes adult private consensual homosexual acts.

**Sodomy laws
***Oregon legislature decriminalizes homosexual acts between consenting adults, but the law is repealed before its effective date of January 1, 1972.
*March 24 - In a case granting citizenship to a Cuban man, a U.S. federal judge dismisses laws barring homosexuals from immigrating to the United States.

*April 1 - French magazine "Tout" seized by police who characterize its call for sexual liberation in that country an "outrage to public morals."

June

*June 1 - UK newspaper "International Times" loses an appeal on inndecency charges for running personal ads for gay men.

July

*July 1 - Gay Alliance Toward Equality (GATE) is founded as Canada's first gay rights organization.
*July 21 - George Klippert is released from prison, two years after homosexuality was decriminalized in Canada.

October

*October 12 - New York City Department of Consumer Affairs recommends the repeal of a city law banning homosexuals from working in or going to bars.

November

*November 1 - "The Body Politic", Canada's first gay rights magazine hits newsstands.
*November 16 - U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, a Democrat, says he supports laws banning employment discrimination based on sexual orientation.

December

*December 14 - Sodomy laws: American gay rights activist group Gay Activists Alliance protest in front of the Suffolk County, New York police headquarters after two members were arrested for sodomy.
