The school opened in 1910 as Berry Hill Secondary Modern. The school grew steadily as other small secondary schools closed, with students arriving from
Joys Green andLydbrook ; to accommodate the extra students the school was largely composed of wooden sheds.Berry Hill grew to become one of the largest secondary modern schools in Gloucestershire. In 1985 re-organisation took place and Lakers School was formed.
The school has around 800 pupils. It is on the same site as the
Royal Forest of Dean College with which it shares sports facilities.Awards
