Sportsline

"Sportsline" is a call-in discussion show, airing Tuesday nights at 10 PM on WRCT Pittsburgh, covering Carnegie Mellon University athletics, Pittsburgh Sports, and national sports topics. Billed as "President Jared Cohon's favorite WRCT sports talk show," the show is one of the longest running public affairs programs on WRCT.

Contributors

The show is known for its rotating cast of contributors, which include current Carnegie Mellon students, as well as both Carnegie Mellon alumni and college dropouts. The show's contributors also broadcast Carnegie Mellon football and basketball games and provide play-by-play and color commentary for the annual Buggy races.

"Sportsline" has also been a forum for many colorful characters to voice their opinions, including "Kenny Cope," "Tyrone," and "NASCAR Bob."

Broadcast of Upset Victory

"Sportsline" staff members provided commentary for Carnegie Mellon men's basketball team's upset victory over Princeton University on December 28, 2005. A clip of the [http://www.d3hoops.com/audio/06/cmuprincetonend.mp3 closing seconds of the game] was featured on D3hoops.com.

Dubious Innovations

Over the years, "Sportsline" has featured events not normally heard on conventional sports talk programming. Among these innovations are push up contests and elections to determine the rightful host of the show. The show has also featured debate games such as "That's a Lie" and "You're Out, Jerk!," a scored competitive banter game modeled after ESPN's "Around the Horn". The inaugural "Sportsline Poker Showdown" was held during the Spring 2006 semester. Panelists played Texas Hold 'Em Poker to earn bragging rights. The second annual "Sportsline Poker Night" was held on April 24, 2007.
