The Paly Voice

Started in Fall 2002, The Paly Voice is a student-run journalism Web site published continuously by the students in Palo Alto High School's Web Journalism class.

At the Voice, staff members present their own reporting, writing, and photography along with work from the school's magazine, newspaper and broadcast journalism programs. The site also serves as a searchable archive of the content of these publications.

As of Aug. 7, 2008, the Voice staff has written 1728 stories as well as posted 2991 Campanile articles, 747 Verde stories, 410 In Focus broadcasts, 7510 images, and 5055 pieces of feedback from readers. Altogether, they have received a total of 7461759 hits. [ [http://voice.paly.net/about.php The Paly Voice | 2008 Release: Paly Voice: About] ]

During June, 2008 the site had 57464 unique visitors from over 80 countries, according to traffic-tracking software. Overseas visitors primarily consisted of people from Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

The Voice has also been referred by 6,500 external pages. The primary referrer is paly.net, the school's official website, which has been featuring the Voice spotlight boxes on its front page since 2003. In 2007, many professional on-line journalism Web sites, including the one belonging to National Public Radio, referred to the Voice for the only readily available image of Mary Tillman, mother of American football player and US Army Ranger Pat Tillman, on the Internet.
