cities =Esthwaite Water is one of the smaller and less well-known
lake s in theLake District national park in northernEngland . It is situated between the much larger lakes of Windermere andConiston Water , in the traditional county ofLancashire ; since 1974 in the administrative county ofCumbria . To the north is the village ofHawkshead and to the west isGrizedale Forest .The lake covers around convert|280|acre|km2|1 and is known for its excellent
fishing , particularlytrout and pike. It has been designated as asite of special scientific interest .The lake was mentioned as the location where
William Wordsworth conversed with a friend in Wordsworth's poem, "Expostulation and Reply," part of Wordsworth'sLyrical Ballads . Wordsworth also mentions it in his Prelude of 1805 at line 570: "From Esthwaite's neighbouring lake the splitting ice".
