James Laughlin Award

The James Laughlin Award is given annually by the Academy of American Poets to recognize a poet's second published book. It was named the Lamont Poetry Prize until 1995.

The award is named in honor of James Laughlin, who founded New Directions in 1936. The award has been given since 1954, and was endowed in 1995 by a gift from the Drue Heinz Trust. It carries a cash prize of $5,000.

Past winners include Edward Field, Donald Justice, Brigit Pegeen Kelly, X.J. Kennedy and Donald Hall.
