The Zaporizhia Oblast was created as part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on
January 10 ,1939 .The territory of the oblast came under the dominion of the
Golden Horde after the fall ofKievan Rus' . Thesteppe s off of theDnieper River were subsequently ruled by theCrimean Khanate , beginning in 1445.From the 15th century to the 18th century, the northern parts of the province belonged to the
Zaporizhian Sich - a self-governed militaryrepublic of the Ukrainian Kozaks.Points of Interest
