A product of
Real Madrid 's youth system, Contreras picked up aUEFA Champions League winner's medal in 1998, even though he did not play a minute of the campaign. He played 23 games for the B-side,Real Madrid Castilla , from 1992-1994, and appeared in four first-team games in 1998-99, as Madrid were vice-champions. In 1996-97, Contreras was loaned out toRayo Vallecano where he made 41 appearances out of 42.Contreras moved to
Málaga CF in 1999-2000. There, he was the undisputed first-choice, missing 6 league contests from 1999-2003.He moved to
Real Betis in 2003, making made 22 league appearances during 2003-2004, but none in the following due to injury and the rise of Toni Doblas. In 2005-2006, Contreras appeared in theUEFA Cup and theUEFA Champions League , where he kept a clean sheet against Chelsea in a 1-0 win.Loaned to

Although being called up for many Spanish national squads, Contreras received his only cap against Paraguay, on
16 October 2002 . The match ended 0-0, as Contreras was subsequently third-choice goalkeeper for the nation in2002 FIFA World Cup .References
