WXXL is the callsign of XL1067, a CHR radio station which broadcasts across the Central Florida region from Clear Channel Communications' studios in Maitland, a northern suburb of Orlando, Florida. Its manifest is registered to Tavares, Florida. It is transmitted from a 100 kW transmitter in Winter Garden, Florida. WXXL also broadcasts in HD Radio. Alongside sister station WFLZ, WXXL can be picked up in much of the Tampa Bay Area.

Programming

Shows include: "The Johnny & Jayde Morning Show" which is aired between 5am and 10am, it is fronted by long time XL DJ Johnny Magic who has been waking up Orlando for many years, and still manages to hold good listening figures. The daytime show is on-air from 10am until 4pm and is presented by Jana. The 4pm till 7pm afternoon slot is currently presented by Stick on the Radio followed by Jayde's All Access and Stick returns to host 8-11pm. The station also carries Ryan Seacrest's "American Top 40" each weekend.

In the 1990s, WXXL carried a Sunday night show called "Alternative Static" which aired modern/alternative rock from 8pm-Midnight on Sunday Nights. This occurred because the Orlando market at the time did not have a full-time modern/alternative rock station. Hosted originally by "Surfer Dave", (then, in 1994, taken over by his former producer Nikki Knight,) "Alternative Static" consistently led the ratings in its time slot.

War of the Roses

War of the Roses is a segment in Stick on the Radio's afternoon show that originally began its run at XL in 2007. The segment features a listener who asks the DJ for help in seeing if their spouse is cheating by posing as a representative from a fictional rose company and offering the suspect a free dozen long stemmed roses. Currently, the fictional company used is RosesUnliminted.net, a internet based rose company. Due to the high volume of ratings and local media attention, some calls are not successful due to the fact the suspect is either familiar with the radio show or isn't interested in the telemarketed themed call.

History

The original call sign of 106.7 was WLBE-FM, based in Leesburg. During most of the 1970s the station was WDGM, playing beautiful music. The station has featured a CHR format more or less continuously since the mid-1980s; during the '80s the station was known as WHLY ("Y-106") - except for a brief period in 1987-88 when the calls were WCAT ("The Cool Cat") and competed with WBJW "BJ105." WHLY took on the WXXL calls and the "XL106.7" identity in 1990.
