Argentina and the pioneers of the genre in Latin America.History
The band was founded in 1981 by guitarist Hari B (his real name is Pedro Braun). The rest of the band included Stuka (bass), Pil Trafa (vocals) and Sergio Gramatika (drums). In their first years, sometimes they had to perform under the name of "Los Voladores" ("The Flying Ones") because the censorship of the military government did not allow the original name of "Los Violadores" ("The Violators" -not, 'rapists', since the term refers to 'violators of the law', as sung in one of their songs).
After a while, Hari left the band and Stuka took his place at the guitar, with El Polaco taking on the bass; the latter was presumably a relative or an acquaintance of Hari B's. ("El Polaco" is Spanish for "the Pole" -in spite of his German surname Hari B. was of Polish descent, both of his parents Polish-born).
By 1985 some tension began to grow within the band, caused by the two different ideas for the future of the band that Pil Trafa and Stuka had, because the later one wanted the band to incorporate some
Post-punk and gothic influences, favouring the sounds ofThe Cure andU2 (this materialised in the albumFuera del Sektor of 1986), meanwhile Pil Trafa wanted a more straight forward punk sound likeRamones (evidenced in the albumMercado Indio of 1987).In spite of the differences the band stayed together until 1992, and since then they have reunited many times with different musicians, Pil Trafa being the only member on all of them. In 2000 Stuka joined the band again, and in July 2006 they plan to celebrate the 25 years of the band.
