Cicero , who described it as a land of "Barbarians ". This word derives from the Greek Βάρβαρος-ου, which means stuttering, and is a reference to the fact that the inhabitants of Barbagia couldn't speak Latin well Fact|date=January 2008. The inhabitants were also known as "latrones mastrucati", which means "thieves with a rough garment in wool".The area is usually divided into three Barbagias: the Barbagia di
