wimming Career

In 1999 Schreuder made her international debut at the European Junior Championships in Moscow. At the European SC Championships 2001 in Antwerp she won the silver medal alongside Inge de Bruijn, Suze Valen and Annabel Kosten. In the same year Schreuder was named Holland's "Talent of the Year". In 2001 she also made her World Championships debut, at the age of 17. During the 2001 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka she immediately reached the final in the 50 m backstroke finishing 8th. After disappointig results at the European LC Championships 2002 in Berlin and the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona. Shethen won twice gold at the 4x50 freestyle during the European Short Course Championships in 2003 and 2004. But then she missed out the 2004 Summer Olympics.

2005

After the disappointment of missing the Olympics she went on with her career and qualified for the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montreal, Canada. With 4x100 m freestyle relay she just missed out for a medal ending up 4th. Individually she reached a 16th place in the 50 m backstroke. At the end of the year during the European SC Championships 2005 in Trieste she won relay gold in the 4x50 m freestyle and the 4x50 medley. There was also a bronze medal in the 100 m individual medley.

At the 2006 FINA Short Course World Championships Schreuder was a member of the 4x100m Freestyle Relay Team that set a new world record: 3:33.32. During the summer of 2006 she competed in the European LC Championships 2006 in Budapest. Although she was in the (short course) world record team of the 4x100m freestyle, she was swam out of the team for the final by a surprisingly strong teenager, Ranomi Kromowidjojo. Later on she ended 9th in 50 m backstroke semifinal and 5th in the 4x100 medley, swimming the backstroke leg.

2007

After qualifying for the 2007 World Aquatics Championships the tournament in Melbourne turned to be a big disappointment for Schreuder. Ending up 25th in the 50 m backstroke and 43rd in the 100 m backstroke. Afterwards she concluded that the combination swimming and studying burned her out for a bit. After a long holiday she started to work with her new coach, Marcel Wouda, and made a fresh start which resulted in personal records and olympic nominations during the Dutch Open Swim Cup in december. There was also a special world record attempt in the 4x100 m freestyle (short course) together with Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Femke Heemskerk and Marleen Veldhuis she bettered it to 3:30.85.
