Marzuki Stevens (born February 16, 1974) is a professional long distance and marathon runner from Detroit, Michigan. Marzuki finished 5th among Americans at the Chicago Marathon on October 10, 2004, and 20th overall at the Boston Marathon, 2006. He qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials.[1]
Marzuki Stevens is the brother of singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens.[2] He has appeared on two musical releases with his brother.[3]
Marzuki attended Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Entering the school as a freshman, and graduating in 1992, Marzuki distinguished himself as a student of German, an artist (particularly in drawing), and as a runner. In his senior year, Marzuki distinguished himself with a then career-best time of 15:35 for a cross country 5k, and a 4:16 for a track 1600 m run.
Marzuki graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1996, and received his Master in Architecture degree from Graduate School of Design at Harvard in 2005. Between Williams and Harvard, Marzuki spent several years teaching photography and architecture and coaching soccer at a small progressive high-school in Williamstown called Buxton School. While Marzuki was teaching, his brother, Sufjan Stevens, recorded some of the songs from one of his early albums in the small building on campus. Marzuki has contributed to several of Sufjan's albums.
Sufjan named an indie folk band he was in Marzuki, after his brother.
