The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a nonprofit professional organization with a worldwide membership of leaders and potential leaders in
educational technology . It is dedicated to providing leadership and service to improve teaching and learning by advancing the effective use of technology in K–12 education and teacher education.Purpose
Home of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), the
Center for Applied Research in Education Technology (CARET), and theNational Educational Computing Conference (NECC), ISTE meets its mission through knowledge generation, professional development, and advocacy. ISTE also represents and informs its membership regarding educational issues of national scope through ISTE–DC. ISTE supports a worldwide network of Affiliates and Special Interest Groups (SIGs).ISTE has provided leadership in providing standards for Administrators, Teachers and Students for more than 10 years. ISTE released the [http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_stands.html NETS•S] refreshed at the NECC 2007 conference in Atlanta, GA. These refreshed standards provide the framework for technology standards for students. The [http://www.iste.org/Content/NavigationMenu/NETS/ForTeachers/2008Standards/NETS_T_Standards_Final.pdf NETS•T] were updated and released at the 2008 NECC in San Antonio, Texas. NETS•A (for Administrators) is in the process of being refreshed.
ISTE also has affliates worldwide from local, provincial, state and national bodies.
Publications and other Resources
In addition to publishing educational standards, ISTE publishes "Learning and Leading" magazine, a wide assortment of books and classroom materials. They also offer podcasts, professional development and have purchased an "island" on the virtual world called
