Ed Meyer (born
20 December 1960 ) is a Republican politician from the U.S. state ofNorth Carolina .Meyer received the Republican nomination for
North Carolina State Treasurer in theNorth Carolina Council of State election, 2004 . Meyer raised and spent approximately $45,000 for his campaign against an incumbent Democrat State Treasurer, who raised and spent approximately $1.5 million. Meyer received 45.5% of the statewide vote, outpolling the GOP nominees for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, and Secretary of State, as well as the GOP-endorsed candidate for State Supreme Court.Meyer is a graduate of Stanford University (BA '79) and Georgetown University Law Center (JD '91). While a student at Stanford University, Meyer co-founded the Stanford Review, one of the first conservative student newspapers in the country, a publication that is currently still in existence.
Meyer served in the Reagan Administration as an official at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He is a past Grand Knight of Piedmont Council 939 Knights of Columbus. He has published numerous articles on health care law topics. Meyer was born in San Francisco, California, the son of the late Michael R. Meyer of San Francisco and Sabel Meyer de Lopez Portillo, of Tampico, Mexico. He is married to the former Karol Anne Lamos. They have two children. Meyer currently resides with his family in Northern California.
