- Paul Blackford
Paul Blackford is an
electronica artist that uses keyboard synthesizers andcomputer software to create musical pieces. He currently resides in Surrey, London,UK (United Kingdom).Biography
Paul Blackford grew up in the early 1990s at the peak of the
Rave /Acid House musical era. During this time he was copyingmix tapes that his older brother brought home from raves and listening to them. After a couple of years of listening to these tapes and buying records onShut Up And Dance ,Impact , Network and various other labels Paul found a demo of a music sequencing program on an Amiga magazine cover disk and started creating his own tunes. After saving up enough money he brought aYamaha QY10 and started playing live sets using the portablesequencer . Towards the end of the 1990s Paul formed the "Uncanny X-squad" with college friends (Method) Mel France and Tom(sk) Putnam and the trio started putting on illegal parties inSouth London . In 2002 Paul struck a deal with Ed DMX's label, Breakin and his first EP entitled '1991' was released in February 2003. TheEP (Extended Play Album) was created using aPentium II computer that Paul found in a dumpster outside of some offices and a copy ofFruity Loops , proving that you don't need expensive equipment to make music. The EP fused the unmistakable sounds of old-skool rave,8-bit computer sounds and incredibly fierce sub-bass. The Breakin' press release described it as being "like Aux 88 locked in a suburban UK bedroom with a few Dream FM tapes from 1992." While Kudos Records classed it as a pioneering new UK Bass sound. In the ever-changing music world and the era of the iPod generation Paul has fully embraced the MP3 revolution and is now releasing music via digital downloads, increasing the breadth of his fanbase. Paul has released material on such labels as
Audio Aubergine , Base Logic, Bounce Records, Breakin’, Delta 9 Plastics, Electrotoxic, Wide and also library music for television on BMG Zomba.References
