Cal Cunningham

James Calvin "Cal" Cunningham, III (born 6 August 1973) is an attorney and Democratic Party politician in the United States, and a former member of the North Carolina Senate.

Cunningham was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and grew up in Lexington, North Carolina; he graduated from Forsyth Country Day School in 1991. In 1996, he earned degrees in philosophy and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as Student Body President. Cunningham earned a graduate degree in public policy and public administration from the London School of Economics in 1997, and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1999. He then entered private practice and currently practices in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina office of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP.

Cunningham is also a Captain in the United States Army Reserve and is a graduate of Airborne School and the Judge Advocate Officer Advanced Course. He has mobilized twice with XVIII Airborne Corps and has deployed once to Iraq.

He is married to Elizabeth Kolb Cunningham; they have two children, Caroline ("Caroline") Evans Cunningham and William ("Will") Henry Cunningham.
