The Tarndale bully, "Gobiomorphus alpinus", is a sleeper of the genus "Gobiomorphus", found only in a few small sub-alpine tarns in the headwaters of the Clarence and Wairau Rivers in Marlborough in the South Island of New Zealand.

Although the Tarndale bully is hard to visually distinguish from the other bully species, it is the only bully in its limited habitat.

Originally, the Tarndale bully was thought to be the only South Island population of Cran's bully, but detailed measurements and genetic studies has shown it to be a new species. The bully’s name comes from its location - that part of Molesworth Station formerly known as Tarndale Station.
