11 October to17 October 1942 , "Oboro" was on a transport run fromYokosuka viaShimushu toKiska . She was sunk on17 October in an air attack by U.S. Army B-26s, 30 miles (55 km) northeast of Kiska (coord|52|17|N|178|08|E). A direct bomb hit among munitions being carried caused the ship to blow up and sink, leaving only 17 survivors, including Lieutenant Commander Yamana, to be rescued by "Hatsuharu" (heavily damaged in same attack).On
