Gemma Ramsay was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, portrayed by Beth Buchanan from 1990 until 1991.

Life story

Gemma was caring, carefree and independent and was sent to live with various relatives in Brisbane after her mother died, and finally ended her Aunt Madge Bishop and Harold Bishop in Erinsborough.

She was cautious and was slow to commit to a relationship since she had just broke up with Aidan Devlin. Later she fell in love with, and had an on-off relationships with both Ryan McLachlan and Matt Robinson. She broke up with Matt after he took Gemma for a ride on his new motorbike and crashed. Gemma was rushed to hospital and nearly lost a leg due to the severity of the injury. Gemma later forgave him and brushed off both Aidan and Ryan as the started making advances at her. She later had a brief romance with Glen Donnelly. Gemma fell in love with a student doctor Adam Willis.

Her career

After successfully passing her HSC, Gemma then became a vet and nearly lost her job after protesting against the use of animals in a circus. Gemma was offered a job at an animal sanctuary in Newcastle, New South Wales. Gemma was a very environmentally minded and 'Green ' person like the vegetarian Harold Bishop, Melanie Pearson, her animal loving friend Melissa Jarrett, Cody Willis and the environmentalist/Animal rights crusader Kerry Bishop. Green issues had become a rather hot topic at this time among some of the younger characters.

Her departure

After a tearful and heartbreaking goodbye to Madge, Harold and Adam, Gemma left Ramsay Street behind for a new life in Newcastle, and she was joined by Adam a month later, after which they began a serious relationship with each other.
